Cala Longa and Molpa cliff

Palinuro
Places:
min 3 - max 15
Suitable for:

Description:

Palinuro has many wide and sandy beaches that can be reached without any effort: for example, the very famous Saline Beach.

This allows other, more hidden beaches to remain a secret known by few.

This is the case of Cala Longa. The beauty of this place literally leaves you astonished, the tranquillity it offers even in high season only increases its value.

It is located near the splendid and renowned Marinella beach, at the mouth of the Lambro river. In this enchanting natural environment, which overlooks Cala del Buondormire, the small, unmarked path that leads to Cala Longa is hidden from view.

Walking along it, after a short uphill stretch in the midst of the typical vegetation of the coastal Mediterranean scrub, a fairytale view appears: the strip of beach runs thinly under the cliff of Molpa, a stone giant that descends practically perpendicular to the ground, offering a very high rocky wall, at the base of which there are a series of prehistoric coastal caves, where it is possible to see fossils that cover a time span that starts from the Middle Palaeolithic.

Generally in the Natural History Museums you go dressed: here instead to see very important fossil remains a bathing suit is enough. Indeed, prehistory can be observed while swimming under a spectacular cliff, among transparent waters.

The simple and affordable excursion allows travellers to spend a day at sea in the midst of the most beautiful nature and the most distant and ancient history: if you are in the mood for something special that does not require effort, this is the perfect option!
