Recitative of Palinurus: Walking tour, Antiquarium, Ficocella

Where:
Palinuro
Description:

Palinuro is not just sea. Beyond this renowned beauty, there is a Palinuro hidden in the tangle of its alleys that open onto the sunset.  Many were enchanted by this beauty, such as the great poet Giuseppe Ungaretti, who dedicated the Recitative of Palinurus, inspired by the splendor of the Capo which bears the name of Aeneas' helmsman.

The walk retraces the places linked to the poet's stay and the history of the town, made up of natives, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Spaniards, and Napoleonians. Includes a guided tour of the Antiquarium – Archaeological Museum of Palinuro: magnificently located in a pine park overlooking the sea, it houses important works from different eras, direct evidence of the indigenous settlement of the 16th century BC, which later came into contact with the Greeks in the 6th century BC.

It ends at Ficocella Beach, one of the most beautiful in the area, with its cliffs overlooking the sea and thermal springs: a pleasant visit that beautifully illustrates the soul of a place that offers much, much more than just the bluest of seas.
