The Pirate Town

Where:
Agropoli
Description:

Gateway to the Cilento, the "upper town" (Akropolis) of the Byzantines has been a Saracen stronghold during centuries.

The old town, located in a spectacular position at the highest point, is a picturesque maze of alleys, squares, staircases, leading to the beautiful Angevin - Aragonese Castle and the church of Saint Mary of Costantinople, sign of the deep bond with the East.

Agropoli is also famous for its beautiful beaches, especially the Bay of Trentova and Punta Tresino, in ancient times a settlement of Greek Trezeni, then port and residence of Roman nobles.
