En tois meresi ton prinkipion - in the region of princes: Italo - Greek monks in the Longobard lands of Cilento
A journey through stories and places as crucial as little or nothing known by mass tourism: it tells a key page that begins in the High Middle Ages, when there is a migratory flow of Greek monks in the Cilento, at the time part of the Longobard Principality of Salerno.
The Longobard princes of Salerno extend their tuititio, their protection, to the Italo Greek monks who came more and more numerous "en tois meresi ton prinkipion", in the region of the princes, as it is read in an ancient Synaxarion of Grottaferrata.
The sign of their passage is still visible in the beauty of the villages founded by them, in the artistic masterpieces they left behind, in the natural heritage they introduced (licorice, Aleppo pine etc.), even in gastronomy, because many poor dishes of Cilento are nothing but the food of monks, that 1500 years before any bio food trend were fed mainly of wild herbs.
The package includes natural attractions, walking tours, tastings, meetings with makers of officinal preparations.
